Computer Bug

Recently many computer users have noticed a new problem. When they play a streaming video, from youtube.com or hulu.com or others, the computer freezes, beeps possibly, and a BSOD or blue screen of death error. If you read the content of the blue screen you will find that a file called watchdog.sys has caused the error. In this article I will show you how to fix this problem.

Adobe flash player has recently updated to version 11. They have improved their video acceleration and security. Unfortunately some video cards, with even seemingly recent drivers, will crash upon playing a streaming video.

The fix: click on this link to go to adobe's website. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about

Right click on the animated banner and choose Settings. Click on the first tab and uncheck the Enable hardware acceleration box as shown hereThen choose Close and problem solved!

A long term solution to this problem will be updating your video driver. If you are running Windows XP, that may involve going to ATI or NVIDIA's website and downloading the latest driver. If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may find the update in Windows Update (find it in your start menu) and look at the optional updates.

Note: I have seen some other types of BSOD's when watching streaming videos. Usually the cause is a bad memory card or a bad router.
